On the road again: Here’s where you can find Candid

Conference season is upon us and, for the first time in more than two years, many of us are hitting the road, eager to practice being in community again, and to rediscover long forgotten sections of our wardrobes. I now have two in-person conferences under my belt and am heading for a third, and though it’s still anxiety producing to travel during various waves of pandemic spread, the opportunity for connecting and reconnecting with colleagues and focused time for reflection and inspiration have been a welcome change of pace.

Earlier this spring, our CEO, Ann Mei Chang, presented at SXSW on how better approaches to data can lead to a more efficient and equitable philanthropic field. Meme Styles, founder and president of MEASURE, joined her on the stage to share how having a Candid profile has improved funding and equity for the small nonprofits she works with in Austin. The presentation makes a great case for why and how philanthropy needs to change to live up to its full potential. You can watch the full talk here: SXSW 2022: Using Data to Advance Racial Equity.

I’m also excited to share that this week takes me to the Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) Leadership Conference where I’ll be presenting as part of a panel on Philanthropy for Climate Justice, to explore why and how funders should adopt a climate justice lens and how philanthropy can play a transformational role in accelerating a just transition. I’ll be providing an overview of our forthcoming funder’s guide created in partnership with the Ariadne Network, Centering Equity and Justice in Climate Philanthropy. If you’re also headed to the HIP conference, please join us for the session on Wednesday, June 8th. And be on the lookout for more information about the new Guide in the weeks to come.

There are more opportunities to connect with Candid at upcoming conferences. As you’re out and about at other industry conferences over the summer, here’s the scoop on where our staff is scheduled to present. Hope you can join us!

  • June 22- Connect with Cesar Del Valle, who leads our Global Partnerships team at the AVPN Conference, where he will present as part of a panel, Enabling Trust-Based Giving: Building the Movement for the Asia-Pacific Region.
  • July 19- Hear from our CEO, Ann Mei Chang, at the United Philanthropy Forum Conference, where she will be joined by a panel of industry leaders for a discussion on The Future of Philanthropy.
  • July 20- Learn more about demographic data from Cathleen Clerkin, our Senior Director of Research. She will also be presenting at the United Philanthropy Forum as part of the panel session on, What Does Race Have to Do with It? Unpacking Racial Demographics in the U.S. Social Sector.
