Fellowship Opportunities for Philanthropy Professionals

Calling all philanthropy professionals! We want to highlight some exciting fellowship opportunities for our GrantCraft community:

MCF Philanthropy Fellowship

What is it? The program aims to increase the number of people from under-represented communities holding leadership positions in philanthropy. Fellows will be employed by the Minnesota Council on Foundations and placed at the Bush Foundation to work either with its Community Innovation or Education team. Over the course of a three-year appointment, Fellows will receive significant professional development and networking opportunities. Each MCF Philanthropy Fellow will receive $60,000 starting salary plus full benefits, medical/dental insurance, contribution to 403b, paid vacation, and company holidays.

Who can apply? Eligible candidates will be high-potential leaders with five years of work experience and a commitment to a career in the Bush Foundation region – Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and the 23 Native nations that share the same geography. The program seeks to diversify the leadership pipeline in the philanthropic sector; candidates will come from communities under-represented in philanthropy with an emphasis on racial/ethnic diversity at this time.

When is the application deadline? Noon on Wednesday, November 13, 2013.

2014 Senior International Fellows Program

What is it? The program provides professional development through seminars with Third-Sector practitioners, research based on best practices, and the application of a comparative framework. The program is designed to help strengthen Third-Sector capacity in countries outside the United States.  Fellows are based at The Graduate Center of The City University of New York, where they design and pursue an individualized strategy paper, attend weekly seminars, explore the work of key agencies and foundations, meet with nonprofit leaders, and study U.S. and international community foundation models. Full fellowship awards cover the costs of tuition, furnished accommodations in Manhattan, insurance, local meetings and other selected program-related costs.

Who can apply? Fellowship awards are available for senior-level practitioners and decision-makers at community foundations, at place-based grantmaking organizations, and institutions that support community philanthropy in the US and overseas. Preference is given to candidates who are 1) affiliated with a community foundation or initiatives to support community philanthropy development, and 2) who illustrate in their proposals a clear interest in furthering the work of community foundations or strengthening the local culture of philanthropy.

Candidates affiliated with other institutions in the philanthropy sector who submit proposals on current trends and practices in philanthropy (other than community foundations) may apply for consideration on a tuition basis or with financial support from individual or institutional sponsors.

When is the application deadline? For non-U.S. citizens: Monday December 2, 2013. For individuals living and working in the U.S., applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

Visit each fellowship website for further  information about these opportunities. Have a professional development resource that you think we should share? Leave it in the comments or drop us a line!
